On Friday, October 20th, St. Mary’s Kindergarten class enjoyed an exciting day of outdoor learning at the Scandia Woods Environmental Learning Lab (S.W.E.L.L.) in Framnas Township near Cyrus, Minnesota. Students had the opportunity to explore the historic log cabin built in 1874 by Adolph and August Trantow, as well as a learning classroom filled with animals and fascinating nature treasures.
Much of the afternoon was spent hiking the foot trails throughout the woods. Along the way, students learned about the plants and trees growing around them and discovered how water plays an important role in the natural environment. The hands-on experience gave students a wonderful opportunity to connect what they learn in the classroom with the world around them.
It was a fun-filled day of exploring, discovering, and learning about the beauty of nature right in our own community!
